The pall ring is greatly improved on the raschig ring. Although the outer diameter of the ring is also equal to the height, two rows of windows with internal tongue plates are opened on the ring wall, and there are five tongue plates each height position. This structure improves the gas-liquid distribution and makes full use of the inner surface of the ring. Compared with raschig ring, the treatment capacity can be increased by more than 50% and the pressure can be reduced by half; It is usually made of metal, especially stainless steel material.

It is applicable to various separation, absorption and desorption devices, atmospheric and vacuum units, synthetic ammonia decarbonization and desulfurization systems, ethyl benzene separation, isooctane / methyl benzene separation, etc.
Pall ring packing has the advantages of large flux, low resistance, high separation efficiency and large operation flexibility. Under the same pressure reduction, the treatment capacity can be more than 50% larger than that of raschig ring. At the same treatment capacity, the pressure drop can be reduced by half and the mass transfer efficiency can be increased by about 20%. Compared with raschig ring, this kind of packing has the characteristics of large production capacity, small resistance and large operating flexibility. In general, when the pressure drop is the same, it can treat 50% - 100% more than raschig ring, and when the capacity is the same, its pressure drop can be 50% - 70% lower than raschig ring. Pall ring can also help reduce the tower height. Using Pall ring can save 20% - 40% of packing volume than raschig ring.
Hualai pall rings are available in several sizes as indicated on our design sheets to suit most commercial applications. They range in size from 10mm to 76mm or equivalent. It is an essentially a design consideration in specifying a packing size based on capacity and efficiency requirements. The nominal packing size specified should however not be greater than 1/10th of the column diameter.
