The tower internals are integral parts of the packed tower, which, together with the packing and the tower body, forms a complete packed tower. The function of all tower internals is to make gas-liquid contact better in the tower, so as to give full play to the maximum efficiency and production capacity of packed tower. Therefore, the design of tower internals directly affects the performance of packing and the performance of the whole packed tower. In addition, the "amplification effect" of packed tower, in addition to the inherent factors of the packing itself, the tower internals also have a great impact on it.

The liquid distributor is placed on the upper end of the packing, which evenly distributes the reflux liquid and liquid phase feeding to the packing surface, forming the initial distribution of the liquid. In the operation of packed tower, the initial distribution of liquid has the greatest influence on the performance of packed tower, so the liquid distributor is the most important tower internals. Therefore, enough attention should be paid to the selection, design, manufacture and installation of distributor. Generally speaking, it is more difficult to separate systems with more theoretical stages, excellent packings, and packing towers with large diameter and shallow bed, which require more uniform liquid distribution and higher requirements for liquid distributors.
The influence of the initial distribution of liquid on the efficiency of packed tower is mainly attributed to its direct effect on the distribution of liquid in the packing layer. Because two kinds of bad distribution may be formed in the packing layer, that is, large-scale bad distribution and small-scale bad distribution. The large-scale bad distribution is mainly caused by the wrong installation of packing or poor design of liquid distributor, serious improper installation and damage; while the small-scale bad distribution is determined by the type and size of packing, that is, the bad distribution formed by the inherent characteristics of packing natural flow distribution.
The so-called natural flow distribution of packing, that is to say, no matter what the initial distribution quality of each kind of packing is, after the liquid flows through a certain length of packing layer, a stable liquid flow distribution will be established, which is called the natural flow distribution of packing.
