Various Types Metal Tower Internals Stainless Steel Random Packings
There are many types of random packing.
The inner surface of raschig ring is not easy to be fully wetted by liquid, which affects its mass transfer efficiency.
In 1940s, a rectangular window was opened on the ring surface of the packing to increase the turbulence of the gas phase and the wetting of the liquid phase, so as to enhance the mass transfer and reduce the pressure drop.That is pall ring.
In 1970s, Hy-PAC ring, the single tongue of each window of pall ring was changed into two tongues with opposite direction, so that the tongue was twice as many as pall ring, which strengthened the concentration and dispersion of liquid in the packing layer, increased the internal agitation of the liquid drop, improved the gas-liquid distribution, increased the mass transfer rate, increased the flux, reduced the pressure drop and expanded the operating flexibility. The convex ring groove is rolled on the ring wall to improve the strength. At the same pressure drop, the processing capacity of Hy-PAC ring is 10% higher than that of pall ring.
In 1970s, cascade mini ring, the ratio of height to diameter is made into 1:3, the two ends are flanged, which increases the rigidity, and makes the packing mainly point contact when loading, which increases the gap between the packing elements. Its height diameter ratio is small, its center of gravity is low, and it tends to be placed flat in the loading procedure, so the random bed layer has the effect of structured bed layer, which reduces the resistance of gas passing through the packing layer.
In 1980 s, VSP packing was introduced. It has reasonable geometric symmetry. The edges and corners of the packing are obvious, similar to the lattice structure. It is easy to form droplets in the packing layer, making the effective mass transfer area larger than the simple geometric surface. Compared with pall ring, the flux can be increased by 15% - 30%, and the pressure drop can be reduced by 20% - 30%.
In 1970s, metal intalox saddle ring, which smartly integrates the ring and saddle shape into a whole, has the characteristics of both the large flux of the ring packing and the good gas-liquid distribution performance of the saddle packing. It improves the flux and reduces pressure drop of random packing, improves the mass transfer efficiency, and enlarges the application range of random packing.
